Sporting Schools Program

Is a $110 million national initiative from the Australian Government that provides primary school-aged children with access to free sport and other structured physical activity programs.  The program aims to engage traditionally inactive children in sport and other structured physical activities, and through a positive and fun experience, develop a love of sport that inspires them to join a local sporting club.

Each term we participate in two out of school activities a week. Our students all have varying degrees of sporting ability, and furthermore varying attitudes of physical activity.  This program is successful in shifting both students’ abilities and attitudes towards sport, it challenges the picture they have of themselves.

The game based structure creates a fun and inclusive environment when students develop sporting skills and tactics.  The students are focused on the game challenging them to think about what they are actually doing and why instead of instructing them how to perform a particular skill. This program also enables the staff quality time getting to know new students and to continue building positive relationships with them.

This year alone we have participated in Tennis, Ten-Pin Bowling, Surfing and Skate Parks.
